“He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:10 CSB)
With Easter only about a month away, it’s important to be thinking intentionally about the reality of all that Jesus has done for us. (In fact, it’s always the right time to be doing that!)
In Psalm 103, David paints an incredible picture for us of the grace and mercy of God toward us. He speaks of the forgiveness, the healing, and the redemption that God offers us through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.
David reminds us that, the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love. This is part of the unchanging character of God.
As someone who has put his faith in Jesus Christ, there is an amazing difference between what I have received and what I actually deserved. According to the Scriptures, all of us have sinned against God. Like sheep, we have all gone astray and turned to our own ways (Isaiah 53:6). Because of our sinful rebellion, what we deserve then is death (Romans 6:23).
But here’s the incredible reality: Psalm 103:10 reminds us that God has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our iniquities.
Instead of giving us what we deserved, God poured out His grace and love upon us by sending His only Son Jesus Christ to deal with our sins for us. Though we deserved death, Jesus was the one who died. Though we deserved to suffer, Jesus shed His own blood and suffered for us. All that we deserved Jesus took upon Himself.
And what have we received as a result? Complete forgiveness. Life forever. Unconditional love. Perfect peace. True purpose. Guaranteed hope. All of this because of the work of Jesus Christ for us on the Cross!
Think about how incredible this is. If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, your record now is clean. Your debt has been paid. As far as the east is from the west, so far has God removed your transgressions from you.
What an incredible God! What a wonderful Saviour!
I pray that in this Easter season you would be overwhelmed with the grace and mercy that is found in Jesus Christ and that God would freshly stir your heart toward Him. Amen!
